On the most basic, massage is applied as a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, including the muscles, connective tissues, ligaments, joints and tendons. It is highly considered as a form of medical care with the notion that it can help lessen the development of painful muscular patterning. It also helps to lessen the discomfort on the soft tissues associated with the everyday and occupational stresses, muscular overuse and chronic pain syndromes.

Massage therapy is by far one of the oldest therapies known to man. Numerous researches have revealed that it was being practiced in the Far and Middle East for at least 5000 years. Several findings also suggest that massage therapy has long been practiced in Egypt, China, Greece and Rome and what are much known to it are its numerous benefits to the body as well as to the spirit.

Basically, massage therapy is a therapeutic technique that involves manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. It is the calming, therapeutic process of kneading, stroking, and pressing the different areas of the body to alleviate pain, relieve stress and tensions, or relax, stimulate and tone the body.

With knowledge of those areas, its no doubt that massage therapists are strongly capable of helping people to treat symptoms of pain and dysfunction. Its nice to know that a number of them, to make this thing possible, work deeper to find and treat the underlying causes of whatever pain or physical imperfections there is.

Here are some examples of massage therapist. 1. Remedial Massage This area is a paramedical massage treatment. The massage therapists working in this area perform their tasks to assist their clients in healing parts of their body that have been injured or left inactive due to age, illness and injury. 2. Relaxation Massage Here, the therapists combine massage techniques to promote relaxation. The techniques involved at this area of practice also improve circulation, relieve muscle tension and increase range of movement. 3. Sports Massage Just like relaxation massage, this area combines different massage techniques to improve the persons performance and recuperation in sports, and to prevent injury as well. The therapist who works in the area applies pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques.

Although the tasks performed by a massage therapist is not that heavy, certain requirements are set for the therapists to meet. One of the most needed is good health. Well, this is very important as massage therapists will be dealing with people who wish to be healthy, so it is important that they too are healthy and physically fit. Aside from that, a therapist must be caring and with positive attitude. Most of all, he or she must have a genuine interest in helping the clients overcome their physical problems.
