Acupuncture Chinese Moxibustion - The Chinese Way To Health

By: George Peters

Chinese moxibustion technique? What is that you may ask?

There are two main curative methods in acupuncture - one uses needles, and the other uses fire. Both methods are effective, and are frequently used in conjunction to cure illnesses.

And so, we come to understand that acupuncture Chinese moxibustion refers to curing of illnesses with fire. As such, the Chinese name for acupuncture - Zhen Jiu - has the Jiu referring to fire acupuncture.

Two extremely famous legends about acupuncture are Huang Di invention of Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion and FuXi creation of the illness curing stone needles. Of course, there are also other lesser known legends.

It is interesting to note that the acupuncture Chinese moxibustion technique actually started with a housewife! She actually found relief for her aching body while cooking at the stove! This time period of the discovery was known as the Eolithic age, and over time, this method was fine tuned with herbal medicines being added to increase its curative effects.

Moxa cone and cupping are two of the most common moxibustion methodologies. It is a simple idea to put fire in a thick glass jar so as to produce a suction effect. When the fire is removed from under the jar, the jar is immediately placed over the body, be it the back, the arm or whatever is the affected body part. There will be a suction effect and the jar will stick onto the body and cause the blood flow to improve.

This heating forces the air out of the jar and causes a suction vortex causing the jar to stick to the body. Blood is then stimulated and increases in blood flow. This also stimulates the internal organs of the patient. The moxa cone was also used for the same effect.

One of the key factors that decide the efficacy or effectiveness of the acupuncture Chinese moxibustion is the positioning of the thick glass jar. As you probably know, another important factor of acupuncture is the acupuncture points or meridian points of the body. As such, the jar must be placed according to the points whereby the illness is supposed to be healed.

Fifteen to twenty minutes is what it takes for the cupping of the jar over the body. To increase effectiveness, medical herbs, ginger and mashed garlic may also be used during moxibustion. Most importantly, treatment is not one off and will have to be done a number of times as required for the respective illnesses.

The acupuncture Chinese moxibustion methodologies have improved tremendously over the centuries. It is not uncommon to see new equipment usage that include electronic needle moxibustion, acupoint injection, microwave needle moxibustion and acupoint magnetotherapy, and many others.
