Alaska Food Is A Culinary Experience Not Soon Forgotten

By: Tammy Foster

Alaska food is one of the things that make this state one of the "must see" places to visit in the US. Yes, the scenery and the wildlife are divine, but wait until you sink your teeth into some of Alaska's food specialties like the king crab, shrimp, cod, clams, oysters and even elk, and caribou. Yum!

These are so well known to the locals and so if an Alaska vacation is in your travel plans this summer be sure to try the local food. Of course, there's no way you should ever get out of Alaska without diving into a plate of decadent Alaskan salmon.

One of the other fantastic finds in Alaska is their sourdough bread. Many Alaskan families enjoy this bread so much that they use the starter dough for a majority of their breads and other baked goods.

This sourdough craze most likely began in the romantic pioneer era. Back then, people made it for traveling because it was easy to move, didn't take up a lot of space, and the bread was surprisingly filling.

Here's something else that you have to try in Alaska and that is the wild game! Think about enjoying a great Alaskan meal of reindeer, elk, moose and even caribou.

Since Alaskans do a lot of hunting, most of the game they catch simply goes into a soup because it is easy and hearty for those chilly Alaskan nights.

So what if you are in Alaska and the though of one more moose stew is enough to drive you over the edge, have no fear, there are many other types of food found in Alaska.

Many ethnic varieties of food have found their way to Alaska, including such treats such as Russian delights and Scandinavian scrumptiousness.

So here's the deal, if you can't find something that you enjoy eating in Alaska, then perhaps you need to re-evaluate your taste buds!

Alaskan foods are so fresh and delicious that they are hard to compare with any other state. These foods are fresh and plentiful. When your Alaskan vacation takes you to your new adventure, be sure to take the time to enjoy the plentiful Alaskan foods. These delicious treats are a taste bud delight not to be missed.
