Cards For The Occasion

By: Fred Jones

Cards are something that you can send for any occasion. From greetings, goodbyes, congratulations and to any other message that can be conveyed to one another, a card is usually sent to covey those feelings. The most popular time to send a card to another person or persons is usually the holiday season and the most popular holiday is the winter holiday of Christmas and New Years.

Admit it you've probably received cards during Christmas in your mailbox from relatives who find it inconvenient to travel to you to deliver their greetings in person. Or maybe you got it when you were passing by someone and they handed one to you and most likely you received a card along with that present of yours. Christmas cards are extremely popular at this time because of the tradition that has existed for years. I'm not sure when it started but ever since I can remember and even my parents and grandparents cards have always been used during the time of Christmas.

Another popular time to receive a card or give one is on a birthday. Today you can buy cards with a witty message and picture to even ones for specific birthdays such as sweet sixteen, eighteen, twenty one and the thirty, forty and so on cards. You can get cards that can beep tunes and light up, ones with pop up pictures and even ones with little pouches that people can stuff gift cards, check and cash into.

But cards don't even need to be sent during happy times, it can also be sent in times of grief to tell the person that you are supporting them. One of the most common times I know when people send cards is when someone is sick. Not the common cold or flu but more serious complications to one's health such as a major surgery or something that will require the person to have to prolong their residence at the hospital. The most common type of cards that is usually sent during this occasion is the "Get well soon" card.

Another time people will send cards at a depressing moment is the time of someone's death specifically their funeral. I remember when my grandparents passed away my parents and uncles received hundreds of cards from acquaintances. But enough with this negative talk. I suppose one the most important times a card is used is during the so-called the happiest time of a person's life.

Still don't know the answer? Here's a hint. It involves a bride and a groom. Weddings are probably the most popular time cards are used. They are used for the wedding invitations, the seating arrangements, and to the congratulations cards. But the thing about these types of cards is that they aren't sent in just a few numbers. For most weddings, people invite hundreds of people to their weddings, though not all will show up a good number of them will still arrive to congratulate the couple. People spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in cards because they aren't made cheap.
