Chanel - Status Symbol of the Rich and Famous

By: Shauna Moline

If you don't know what Chanel perfume is, then you must have lived in a cave your whole life. Chanel is THE perfume, the one and only. It has been dabbed on women's wrists for close to a hundred years now, and it continues to be the status symbol for the rich and famous.

And, as every good thing must be copied, unfortunately there are also many imitations that are doing the rounds, especially in the third world countries where trademarks are not as rigidly protected as in the West.

For those of you who are wondering what the big deal about Chanel is, let me explain. Coco Chanel (Chanel's founder) wanted a perfume that embodied high-society and empowered women. She spent her life endeavoring to reach her goal, and while she probably didn't expect her perfume to be this big of a deal, she made it a big deal from the start.

Flash forward to today, where Hollywood celebrities and famous people all over the world are wearing the Chanel perfume. They choose it because it represents status, it represents fame, it represents a person of high-society, just like Coco envisioned.

Such free advertising and also the effect of celebrities endorsing Chanel perfume has made millions of women want to own a bottle of such perfume for them, thus contributing to the success of this brand even more.

So, with a hundred years of experience in selling its brand, it is no accident that today everyone wants to own Chanel perfume and all that a woman needs today is to walk into a department store where there are sure to be shelves filled with Chanel perfume bottles of different sizes, fragrances and shapes.

One of the most popular perfumes, Chanel No. 5, was created by a man named Ernest Beaux. He blended ylang-ylang and jasmine with neroli and rose to make one of his most beautiful masterpieces. No one outside the company actually knows the exact blending, but I think we can all agree it's perfect. There is even a rumor that a bottle of Chanel No. 5 sells somewhere in the world every thirty seconds. Whether or not that is true, what is true is this: Chanel is doing very well for its owners.

It usually costs about $80 dollars to get you a 1.7 oz bottle of the famed Chanel No. 5, but if you order from a discount site, you'll get a 2.5 oz for roughly the same price. No matter what happens, Chanel is here to stay and it's no secret, if you want to impress, you need Chanel.
