Embroidery - An Enjoyable Craft

Embroidery has been with us for many years, although it takes a number of forms. It's very popular these days with people who enjoy needlework. Most of us aren't aware of how many ways there are to embroider, nor do we know all the innovations it's taken.

Embroidery is basically adding colorful threads to fabric in order to create a design. If you purchase an item of clothing embellished with embroidery it was probably done by a machine, as embroidery can take a very long time to do by hand. Embroidery is a relatively inexpensive hobby as the patterns, thread, and needles don't cost very much. It's fun and creative to add some color and design to clothing, tablecloths, napkins, blankets, and virtually any fabric, without going into debt. Patterns are easy to find as well. There are hundreds of websites offering patterns; some you can mail order and others you can just print from your home computer.

Newer model sewing machines have a simple embroidery capability. You can also purchase software that will place your needle where it needs to go and teach you to make wonderful designs. For most people, the creativity and fun come from making your embroidered pieces by hand. When you use a machine, you probably won't get the sense that you actually made something yourself.

If you would like to try embroidery and don't know how to get started, check the schedule of your local community college. You very likely will find a class in the beginning techniques. Once you know the basics, you should be able to take on projects that you like.

Many craft fairs and embroidery conventions are organized in the country for exposure on embroidery. Apart from that, you can get a lot of information on embroidery from various other sources such as the internet. Many websites are available on the net which are purely dedicated to the cause of embroidery. These sites offer free embroidery patterns for you to download or patterns for discounted prices for you to buy.

Magazines are another great resource for pursuing an interest in embroidery. There are a number of them that you can subscribe to. You'll learn some helpful hints and get new patterns each month. These magazines will also teach you about needles and threads available. You can also learn about events and find super ideas for projects, especially seasonal ones.

Embroidery is a hobby that many people have enjoyed for hundreds of years. You can create some beautiful designs and it is a very fulfilling past time. You don't have to be partially creative to start embroidery. As long as you can follow instructions and have a little patience, you can be creating interesting and unique designs in no time.
