Free Movies on the internet, Fact or Fiction?

Millions of people spend a fortune each year in video rentals. Companies like Blockbuster Online and Netflix have had almost instant success making video access easier and less costly. However, the internet has brought lots of people together with one word on their mind "FREE"

Is there a place on the internet, where you can download movies music and games absolutely free? All copy write laws aside, the question is, does this place exist?
If you were to come up to me on the street and ask me if I can show you how to download free movies and music, my quickest answer would be: "What is your definition of free?" Let me explain:

You could find torrents online, and download movies via unsecured peer-to-peer networks. This method would not cost any money, however it is very risky due to the large amount of viruses you can get. As a computer consultant, I cannot tell you how many computers I’ve spent hours and hours cleaning viruses caused by bit torrent sites like Limewire. All of the sudden, the ‘free downloads’ are costing you up to $150 dollars an hour to get Trojans and spyware cleaned off of your computer. (Good for me, bad for you :] ) And in most cases, doing this also violates copy write laws.
So this method of "free" means you’ll pay for it later; if not in repair funds then in headaches and aggravation when you realize your computers been taken over by a hacker. No wonder identity theft is becoming a huge issue.

The best way to find a cheap but secure source is to pay for a peer-to-peer sharing network. Thus you only have to pay a monthly fee. In most cases, you find just as many (if not more) downloads on the sites that you pay for. The good news is 9 out of 10 of these sites will ‘pre-scan’ all their software before you download it, this making it very difficult to catch a virus from downloading.
Now, this method of ‘free’ is legal, and you will be free of any aggravation, PC repair bills, or possible identity theft. However, this can leave you with a monthly bill, and possible hidden charges if you ever want to burn your data to a CD.

The key is to find a plan that you can get everything you need, and pay as little as possible. There are a few sites that give you all the benefits of a membership site, without charging every month. And there are a select few that will allow you to download and burn movies, music, TV shows, games, and even be able to watch TV without any hidden or reoccurring fees.
To me, this is my favorite kind of ‘free’.

Don’t get me wrong, I miss the days when Napster and Morpheus where free of charges and viruses. I’ll admit that I spent hours and hours downloading everything I could from those sites. But with the modern day internet, paying for your music and movies online have become an inevitability, it is unfortunate but also reality. So enjoy what you can with the most convenient resource.
