Going Beyond Just Getting A Sale

By: Colleen Davis

There are a lot of different aspects to strong marketing, especially if what you’re marketing is your services. Marketing like this is about many different things along with what the customer thinks about you, and often this has little to do with the actual sale itself.

Here’s another important tip: when you’re actually handing out business cards in person the way a person thinks about you will affect what they think about your custom business card. This means that business card printing is often only as good as the person handing someone a card.

I don’t care how amazing your business card is. You might have the very best card in all of existence, but if you leave a bad impression on someone, your card is immediately tainted. They will associate that bad experience with your card, and you might find future sales suffering because of it.

If all you care about is getting the next sale then this will come across when you’re talking to people, and they probably won’t be too pleased with it. I mean think about it, if you’re just gunning for a sale, then are you really looking at them as real people, or future money made?

This kind of mentality leads to a person pushing a sale so much that they come across negatively. Sometimes I want to get to know a person a little better and it has nothing to do with just the sale itself. If you make a good impression on them, they might not buy from you right away, but they’ll be more likely to remember you down the line.

And consider this instead: I might not have interest in buying from you, but if you make a good impression, I might mention you to a friend who will have interest in buying. A person going for nothing more than a sale won’t have any luck with me, because they aren’t going to get that sale out of me, but they could get business from me spreading the word if I like their approach.

A strong push to buy something isn’t an approach I find particularly appealing, and so I’ll be tight lipped because of it.

For any service industry job or a company where you need to personally promote your business a lot, you’ll always have both your business card printing and yourself as primary means of marketing. Both have to be strong in order to have the success you want.

Be sure you know what your priorities truly are. You might not be able to get an immediate sale from people, but that doesn’t mean you haven’t been successful in marketing your business to them. Marketing isn’t always just about the next sale. Remember that the next time you’re marketing yourself, and don’t get too carried away trying to get people to buy something.
