Great Golf With A Strong Swing

By: Farrell Harber

You can have the most expensive clubs, the whitest shoes, or the most technically-advanced golf balls, but you'll never be a great golfer if you don't have a good, strong swing.

The key to a great golf game is having a consistent and reliable swing. A good swing will not only save your game, it can also save face at the course. The first tee is the most important, because everyone is watching you. If you start off with a lousy swing and miss the ball or send it careening off course, you're bound to be embarrassed. That's why it is so important that you devote the time to practice your swing.

It doesn't matter if you buy all of the right equipment and read stacks of golfing books and magazines. To make it as a golfer you need to act like a golfer, not just look like a golfer. Developing a great golf swing won't happen overnight. You need to practice as much as possible, and try not to get too frustrated. Many golfers have taken years of practice, dedication and observation to become comfortable with their swings, and they still don't make a perfect drive every time.

Most people are on the right track as they initially approach the swing. The problem is, they tend to stray because they suddenly change their stance or lose their grip.

Your first step to perfecting your swing is finding a club that feels good to you. The length of club must be perfect, and the grip should be just right. It's also important to feel relaxed as you approach the tee. Try to stay calm, and don't tense up. When your body is relaxed, you can naturally take your stance. This relaxed stance is so important in performing a great swing. Without the right body position you'll have a poor back swing, a poor downswing and poor follow through. You body position must stay strong throughout the back swing, downswing and follow through. Practice is paramount in becoming a great golfer.

Start with the backswing. Take the club and raise it to the proper height behind you. Swing the club downward until you are in the downswing position. At this point, you will hit the ball. Next, be sure to complete your follow through or you will send the ball flying off-course. Those boxes of golf balls can get pricey to replace, so keep your balls on the green by practicing your swing.

If you need help, try using instructional videos and DVDs. Of course, professional instructors can also provide the guidance you're looking for. Private lessons can be expensive, but the personal one-on-one attention is usually worth the money. On a limited budget, you can get just as much from a few trips to the driving range. Visit a few times of week and practice your swing by driving a few buckets of balls. Sometimes, it's a matter of simple trial and error to find your own ways to improve your stance and perfect your swing.

The big difference between good golfers and great golfers is usually found in the swing. By practicing your swing, you'll be surprised at how quickly your game can improve.
