Home Remedies for Foot and Heel Pain

By: Mr. Miyagi

One of the most common forms of pain that people suffer from every day is foot and heel pain. Therefore, if your feet are tender, burn, swell, ache or hurt in any other way, you are not by yourself. If you were to check the statistics you would see that about 9 out of 10 people suffer from heel or foot pain on some level. Since so many people suffer with foot pain you would think there would be a cure for this type of problem by now. Although there is not a cure, there are some really good home remedies that can help in eliminating your foot and heel pain.

There are several home remedies that will help you prevent foot and heel pain as well as help treat pain that already exists. Two of the easiest and most helpful remedies to try are water soaks and massages. Soak your feet in cold water for about 5 minutes and then soak them in hot water for 5 minutes and the change in temperature creates a massage effect that will help your sore feet feel better. If you want, you can also try scented or aromatherapy soaks and massages.

Another massage technique used to help your feet feel invigorated and refreshed is applying moisturizing lotion to your feet before you get ready for bed. The lotion makes it easier to massage the feet. Using creams and lotions that contain capsaicin (a natural ingredient found in hot peppers) can heat up your feet which helps ease the pain you feel. This treatment is especially useful for people that suffer from foot pain due to diabetes, but it can help with other types of foot and heel pain as well.

Before you jog or begin a busy day try stretching your calf and foot muscles help to reduce pressure that causes foot and heel pain. This should also be done regularly throughout the day if you stand for long hours. One of the biggest mistakes people make that contributes to foot and heel pain is buying the wrong shoes. You need to buy a good pair of shoes that is the right size and shape for your feet. The right shoes can lessen any pain and discomfort that you are feeling if this is the cause of your problem. Allow plenty of time for "breaking them in" slowly and do not run long distances or wear them all day until this process is complete.

Another simple but effective home remedy for foot pain is to take time to stretch your calves and foot muscles before starting your busy day. When standing for long periods of time stretch your calf muscles to relieve some of the pressure on your feet and reduce any pain you feel. Take off your shoes and give your feet a "break" at the end of a long hard day. You can also try other tools and home massagers designed to treat foot and heel pain and to help relax your feet. You spend so much time on your feet, it is important that you take good care of them.
