Basically there are 3 essential elements you need in order to build up muscle namely:

-Weight trainings - nutrition and food - Adequate rest

If you are lack any one of these elements, growth will be slow and even do not occur at all. To build up muscle (big and lean muscle) is not a really tough thing to do if you got the fundamentals well; it also isn't a very complex task either even though all those fitness magazines try to make and sound like that.

Being committed and knowing your basic fundamentals is very crucial. Bodybuilding is not a part time commitment - you cannot workout for 12 weeks and take another 12 weeks off.

Gaining muscle is closely associated with time and efforts in fact. Some still hold the belief that only if you have "good genes" then you can build up muscle and a good physique. I think they are somehow confused and having a wrong mindset.

It's somehow true that with good genes, it does help when muscle building is concerned. However, with the right application of the appropriate fundamentals, training methods, proper nutrition and adequate recovery - anyone including you can build up muscle mass in as short as 10 weeks.

You need resistance trainings to build up muscle progressively. Resistance trainings or pumping iron will damage your muscle fibers and your body's way of overcoming the stress is to repair itself and gets stronger.

Having proper nutrition and quality diet plus adequate rest is a sure way to get your damaged fibers to be repaired fast so that new ones can be generated. End result is a bigger and stronger muscle mass.

The surefire way to build up muscle is to constantly supplying nutrients to your body. This is why during the "muscle building" phase, you have to eat 6 small meals with 2-3 intervals everyday for optimum results.

High protein diet plus well balanced meals is very essential for if you are serious about gaining muscle mass in the shortest time possible. It is recommended by dietitian that for anyone wanting to build up muscle, 1.5g or protein per kg of your bodyweight is ideal for maximum muscle growth.

Training 3 times a week is necessary to target all your body parts and as such, you need at least 8 hours of quality sleep everyday to facilitate muscle growth and recovery. Without adequate rest, your effort would somehow go to waste.
