Look Fantastic Again After Giving Birth

By: Dawn Eastman

Now that you have your baby and all seems well; aarrggh---not when you look in the mirror it isn't; you still have pregnancy weight to lose. There is a usual amount of weight that is retained by the newly delivered mother and it averages 10-15 pounds; quite often a little more than that. So, now what. What you need is to get down to working seriously on a plan for your weight loss after pregnancy; not worrying or crying over your weight.

It is not impossible to lose that unwanted pregnancy weight that is plaguing you, but it will not be the easiest thing you've every tackled; so get revved up about it, go see your doctor for some advice on an eating and exercise plan that you like and can work with, and get busy...you will feel so much better in the long run. Think about it; you have a wonderful plan but it's not going to do a thing to help you if you don't rev up your drive and get it moving; every good plan needs a driving force behind it.

Don't even give a thought to those weirdo quick weight loss plans that circle like vultures in the media; they are shams and their claims of making you into a beauty icon in just weeks are false and misleading; this will be work for you and lots of effort. Don't even consider doing rapid weight loss after pregnancy because it is too much of a strain on your body and very dangerous.

Your body needs a little TLC now that you have delivered the baby and you should respect that fact after coming through the mood swings and hormonal pitches and yaws that have taken place, not to mention the trauma of delivery; make sure you are treating it gently. Your body has to have a breather too after all it's just been through, so steer clear of the rapid weight loss plans, they are lethal. 9 mos. is what you should aim for in dropping the weight and do it slowly, You should treat your body fairly in this time of weight loss; if you took 9 mos. to put on that weight, then there should be no reason why 9 mos. shouldn't be the time to strive for to lose it.

Here's a newsflash: The reason for your weight gain gradually during pregnancy was so your system would be prepared nutritionally to be able to breast feed the newborn. You must be prepared with a good support system to be the underpinnings of the baby's nutritional needs because as far as Nature is concerned, you are the only support the baby has. Weaning the baby from breastfeeding will be the impetus that starts the gradual loss naturally of the pregnancy weight that you have been carrying. Once the weaning of the baby takes place, a lot of new mothers will see a large drop in their postpartum weight.

This is really interesting; there have been a lot of studies done on new mothers and they show that when the mothers were breastfeeding they would be burning about 700 calories a day. This is something that should be taken into consideration when you talk about weight loss after pregnancy, because it could be a major player in that arena. How much exercise you are getting can be just as important a factor in maximizing a weight loss plan; just like a good dietary eating plan and all the scores of other factors that make a difference when combined.

Let's be serious here; you want to stick with a weight loss plan that will give you maximum results gradually, but provide sound nutrition while you are breastfeeding and taking care of the baby. Being up to par is the most important factor here; your baby depends on you for his very life and well being and you cannot provide that if you are not healthy yourself. Stick with your routine and just make sure you have covered all the bases so it is healthy and an easy one to live with. What good is it if you don't like the plan and won't follow it...that makes no sense. Make sure you go over your plan carefully and that everything fits just right; that way you can enjoy your new life and your new little life, your baby.
