Making boxshots and ebook covers has never been easier.

By: Mathew Petrenko

Marketing specialists saw a while ago that packages matter. When you would like to distribute an e-book or a piece of software, you should obtain a nice package for it. As the product is made of bytes, so is the package. Below you can see 3 possible ways to create a virtual cover:

- Asking someone to do it for you

- Learning the nuts and bolts of Photoshop

- Using some dedicated software

If you have a friendly designer, the job will be a piece of cake. If the designer knows something about 3D, they will bill you quite a bit. Every box shot or e-book cover will round up to $150. Employing Photoshop is fine as long as you know how to make the program do what you want from it. To do everything nicely extra action scripts could be needed that cost extra money. Do not forget the price of Photoshop: it will cost you over $600. The last option is to go for the dedicated boxshot software. Starting from $15 you can obtain a solution that will satisfy your demands. There is obviously plenty room for your taste. If we group these offerings, we will be left with three categories:

- Fixed templates, no free rotation

- Simple 3D rendering programs

- 3D with ray tracing

If you choose pre-made templates, your boxshots and e-book covers will be okay, but there will obviously be some limitations. You will not be able to greatly modify the angle or scale the software box or ebook cover. The second choice provides you with more settings, but the simplified model produces fake shadows. It is not a problem to see that the picture is somewhat unrealistic. The third method does not have any shortcomings. For every pixel the program calculates millions of rays, determines shadows, glitter and other effects. In the end, you receive a truly realistic image. If you want to have more options and quality, you should employ the 3rd sort of boxshot software. Box Shot 3D is a cool piece of such software. This soft is yours for 40 euros. It will help you make great images of your books and boxes, club cards and more. Have a look at some pics of ebook covers and software boxes. The dark areas, mirror images on the floor and on the objects proper could not be recreated in Photoshop without special scripts. And not many such offerings would let you create anything of the same quality. You will take advantage of many adjustable settings, for instance changing the power of light and shadows, and optimizing many other graphic elements. If you are in the mood of making a software box or an e-book cover, try Box Shot 3D. Your goods will have the packaging they deserve. Attract the prospect with fancy looks. I am sure that Box Shot 3D is the optimal choice for you.
