Tuscany Tourist Information

By: Gary Marshall

The beautiful region of Tuscany on the west coast of central Italy has much to offer visitors and is a favourite of many tourists from all over the world. Known for its quality rental villas and farmhouses (many with private swimming pools) set in the spectacular landscapes, it is definitely not a pile 'em high package holiday destination. Other travelers choose to stay in luxurious apartments and townhouses in some of the many sleepy towns and villages.

With so much to see or do it is hard to know where to start, for many lazing by the pool in the warm Tuscan sunshine or going for long strolls through the peaceful countryside is paramount for a relaxing get away from it all vacation. To others, touring all the historic sites, towns and cities or even a few of the famous vineyards, (with a few samples of course) is the key to an enjoyable break.

The history of Tuscany is there for all to see from Roman ruins, medieval castles to beautifully preserved Renaissance architecture throughout the entire region and its many world renowned towns and cities. There must be literally hundreds of museums and galleries displaying the paintings, sculpture and heritage of its historical past.

Pisa alone is a destination in its own right, with much more to see than the iconic Leaning Tower, surely one of the most photographed buildings in the whole world. Pisa is a joy to wander round and it still possible to see monuments from a bygone age alongside pavement cafes and restaurants where the locals congregate to enjoy delicious meals.

The property market especially at the top end is still buoyant, with many citizens of Italy and the rest of Europe aspiring to own a villa or holiday home in Tuscany. This can be seen in the prices of the real estate, the days of being able to pick up a bargain house that needed restoration for a snip are long gone.

The cuisine of the Tuscany is a delight with plenty of restaurants, bars and small cafes serving fine food and local wine at very reasonable prices. If you get away from the tourist haunts and dine with the local inhabitants, you will be sure to find first class service and fine dining, served by very friendly staff.

Travel is easy with many people driving to Tuscany from all over northern Europe or flying in to Pisa International Airport (Galileo Galilei) which is increasingly used by the budget airlines (for the best prices you should book as early as possible).
