By: Felix Gillat

Toronto is a great place to visit - one of the largest metropolitan areas in Canada and the capital of Ontario. Toronto offers a variety of diverse cultural activities year round including Designs in Ice during December, Toronto Winter City Festival in January and February, Canada Day at Mel Lastman Square on Canada Day, and the Celebrate Toronto Street Festival running in the summer. There's never a shortage of fun events to do during a visit to Toronto.

Regardless of the time of day there's always some activity or place to go in Toronto. The CN Tower, the tallest building in the world at 553.33m, is a wonderful attraction. The tower boasts an Outdoor Observation Deck and the glass floor situated 342m off the ground. If you prefer higher elevations, check out the Horizons Caf‚ and the Indoor Observation Deck another 6m up. Or, go up near the top to the restaurant called 360, which is located 351m off the ground and rotates a full 360 degrees every 72 minutes. Not only is the view remarkable, but the food is mouthwatering. For those that prefer to go even higher, try the Sky Pod the highest observation tower in the world at 447m above the ground. The CN Tower is an adventure all by itself.

For animal lovers, the Toronto Zoo is home to more than 5,000 of them from 460-plus species. The whole family will have a great experience here. The zoo is divided into sections representing regions of the world: Africa, the Americas, Australasia, Canadian Domain, Eurasia and Indo- Malaya. There are different levels from which to view the animals in their indoor and outdoor habitats. You can walk over 10km of trails. When you work up an appetite, you have at least seven different restaurants in which to have a meal. In addition there are many carts and snack bars where you can find tasty treats. Don't miss the Baby Komodo Dragons and the Sumatran Tiger Cubs.

As Toronto is a metropolitan area there are many different forms of transportation available to you. Toronto has a subway system that operates weekdays and Saturday from 6:00am - 1:30pm, and Sundays from 9:00am - 1:30pm. Toronto also has many buses that will take you downtown, out of town, and everywhere else.

Toronto is such an amazing city that a two-week visit wouldn’t give you enough time to see all that Toronto has to offer. There is something for every member of your family to see and do. For those that want to experience the metropolitan life, Toronto is the perfect family vacation spot that is sure to leave your family with lasting memories.
