What To Do To Get Great Tasting Coffee

By: Allison Thompson

Coffee as a beverage is extremely popular the world over today. In fact for many it has become a necessity and the caffeine provides them with an extra kick to get their day moving along. However for those who really love their coffee nothing tastes better than one that is freshly made and the aroma that comes with it will want a person salivating for more. Today getting a cup of freshly brewed coffee is extremely easy to achieve as there are literally hundreds of coffee shops opening up on every main high street each day.

In order for you to make a great tasting coffee for yourself you will need to have the right equipment and the right kind of ingredients. When it comes to buying either coffee beans or grounds you can either purchase them from your local supermarket or grocery store. However if you want a coffee which has more flavor and is completely unique then it may be worth investing some time to find out if there are any speciality coffee shops close to where you live. It is crucial that if you are selecting coffee beans or going for freshly ground coffee from a speciality shop you enquire as to what age the beans are. Where coffee beans are concerned anything that is more than 6 months after being picked and roasted will have lost quite a large amount of their flavor.

There are different types of coffee and coffee beans you can now get for making great tasting coffee. One of the most favored of all these is the Arabica which is picked by hand. Yet as with all gourmet coffees now available the price may be somewhat prohibitive to some people and they will rather spend money on a more commercial brand instead. But one of the biggest disadvantages to using commercial rather than gourmet coffee is that you lose out on flavor and texture.

The major difference between commercial and gourmet coffee is that commercial coffee is made using machines. Whereas gourmet coffee when the beans are being harvested they are picked by hand and this means that very few additional parts of the plant are able to get through to the next process stages. Twigs and leaves which are collected by the machines when the beans are harvested will often get into the other processes and this results in the coffee not tasting as good as it should.

Today you will find that when it comes to choosing a gourmet coffee that you can use at home there are many different flavors to be had from various different areas of the world. Each area of the world that grows coffee has its own unique flavor and the processes that they use to prepare the beans for using in making coffee will determine just exactly what taste you get when you brew the ground coffee. It is the roasting process which will ultimately determine just what kind of flavor the coffee you choose to drink has.

In order for a person to produce a really great cup of coffee it is important that they start from scratch. What this means is that you buy the beans and then grind them yourself at home. Therefore you will need to purchase a coffee grinder; you can either buy a manual or electric one. Personally I prefer using a manual one as it helps to prevent loss of the oils in the bean which help to provide the flavor in the coffee. Also you need to think about buying yourself a good quality coffee maker as well. A quick search of the internet or you could go to our site mentioned below where we provide advice on what are some of the best coffee makers available.

When it comes to making a cup of coffee using your coffee maker the first thing you need to do is thoroughly clean it out and then allow it to dry. Once the machine has been cleaned and dried the first stage of making coffee is to place cold water into the reservoir. Never use warm or hot water as this will result in the coffee brewing too quickly and not enough of the flavor from the grinds will be able to get through. It is best that when using either freshly ground or pre-ground coffee beans you allow 2 tablespoons of these to each cup of water. If you do not put enough coffee in to the machine you will find that the coffee has a weak taste, but too much and the coffee will often taste bitter.

Although you can go to Starbucks and know that you will get a great tasting cup of coffee 99 times out of 100, wouldn't it be much better to save your money and make your own at home. Certainly although initially purchasing the equipment and beans may seem somewhat expensive over time you will soon see the benefit and how much you can save buy producing your own great tasting coffee at home.
